Coconut Oil Bath Melts: Easy as 1-2-3!

Coconut Oil Bath Accessories

What one product can replace dozens of everyday beauty and personal-care products? Coconut oil, of course! Especially unrefined organic extra virgin coconut oil. In addition to being an excellent makeup remover, shaving lotion and body moisturizer, coconut oil bath products can sooth dry, irritated skin while providing it with important vitamins and antioxidants at the same time. Our recipe for coconut oil bath bombs is only the tip of the iceberg.

Coconut oil’s antifungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties are known to help with a variety of skin diseases and irritations such as athlete’s feet and ringworm, skin rashes, bug bites, bee stings and cold sores. In addition, the lauric acid in coconut oil may decrease dark spots, ease wrinkles and restore a bright, youthful look to your skin.

The easiest way to enjoy the benefits of coconut oil for skin is to simply drop a spoonful into a warm bath and let it melt as you relax. But if you enjoy luxurious bath-time enhancers, you should definitely give these bath melts a try.

Coconut Oil Bath Melts

Bath melts are semi-solid dollops of moisturizer that don’t fizz or bubble but simply dissolve in the bath and drench your body with moisture. Some pre-made bath melts are made with a number of chemicals, synthetic ingredients and fake scents. All those extras can actually dry your skin and even cause irritation. Not good! Making your own bath melts is easy, and when you control the ingredients, you know exactly what your skin is being exposed to.

All it takes to make bath melts is a combination of good-for-skin moisturizers such as shea butter, mango butter, coconut oil and any other natural products that are solid when cool. If you also enjoy certain scents while relaxing in the tub, add pure essential oils to create the aromas you love. Essential oils that are known to be relaxing and good for all types of skin include lavender, chamomile and jasmine.

Here’s one example of a bath melt recipe:

1. Place ½ cup Coco Treasure Certified Organic Coconut Oil and ½ cup shea butter in a double boiler to melt.
2. Remove from heat and add 20 drops lavender essential oil.
3. Pour into small molds—silicone or plastic candy molds work perfectly—and allow to set for about 24 hours.
4. Place molds in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before unmolding.
5. Store extra bath melts in the refrigerator to keep them fresh until use.

Feel free to experiment and develop your own favorite combination.
